Kotb, 61, is returning to the Today show to co-anchor alongside Guthrie, 54, for one week, starting on Monday, April 13, while Craig Melvin heads out on vacation. Guthrie and Melvin both announced the update during the Thursday, April 9 broadcast.
Kotb originally left the show in January 2025, before returning for multiple shows to fill in for Guthrie following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy. Sheinelle Jones also filled in for Guthrie during her absence.
“You’re heading off on a very well-deserved vacation,” Savannah told Melvin, 46. “You’ve been holding it down here for a long time. So you’re gonna have a spring break. And Monday we’re gonna try a new host here. Her name is Hoda and she’s gonna fill in for you next week.”

After Melvin joked that he’s “heard of her,” he confirmed he “won’t turn on the TV” during his absence. “Yeah, don’t,” Savannah said. “You’re not supposed to watch on your vacation.”
Savannah made her return to the Today anchor desk for the first time in more than two months on Monday, April 6. The journalist had been off the air after her mom was taken from her Arizona home. The search for Nancy has since entered its 10th week.
Kotb was one of many Today colleagues to show their support for Savannah when she returned to work, sharing a touching Instagram message earlier in the week. Kotb also conducted Savannah’s first televised interview since the disappearance of her mother. During the sit-down in late March, the pair discussed the ongoing investigation and the painful aftermath of her mom’s disappearance. Savannah also weighed in on her return to the anchor desk.

“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Guthrie said of returning to Today. “But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so.”
She added, “I have been so grateful to have this family. I consider this my family, my greater family, and when times are hard, you want to be with your family. And I want to be with my family.”
Discussing the interview on air, Kotb said she was “marveling” at her friend’s ability to “sit there with an outfit on, have a conversation, and also have just direct thoughts about what she sees going forward.”
“It’s gut-wrenching to watch someone you love so much be still post-50 days of this tragic event in this tortured limbo state,” colleague Carson Daly added. “Yet, to still show so much resilience and grace among it all.”
Anyone with information about Nancy’s disappearance is asked to please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department 520-351-4900.
