Long before becoming a familiar face to television audiences as Timothy McGee on NCIS, Sean Murray appeared in one of Disney’s most beloved Halloween films, Hocus Pocus. Released in 1993, the movie featured Murray as the young Thackery Binx, a brave Salem teenager whose heartbreaking story becomes central to the film.
In the opening scenes, Thackery desperately tries to save his younger sister from the Sanderson sisters. As punishment, he is transformed into a black cat and cursed to wander for centuries. While Murray portrayed Binx on screen, the character’s voice was provided by Jason Marsden, who also voiced the cat version throughout the movie.
The role later became connected to another well-known television actress, Troian Bellisario. Bellisario once shared that she had a childhood crush on Murray after watching Hocus Pocus. Years later, life took an unexpected turn when their parents married, making the two step-siblings.
Although Sean Murray is best known today for his decades-long run on NCIS, many fans still enjoy discovering this early chapter of his career. Every Halloween season, viewers revisiting Hocus Pocus are often surprised to recognize the young actor who would eventually become one of NCIS’s most enduring stars.
