Pauline, 65, who famously starred as Sharon in Birds of a Feather, has been suffering from young-onset dementia, a diagnosis for those under 65. Following her diagnosis, reports have confirmed that her condition has progressed rapidly, with the actress now struggling to recognize her own family members.

In a candid conversation with The Sun, her Birds of a Feather co-star Lesley Joseph, 80, shared that Pauline’s  health had deteriorated significantly. “Pauline is not too well. I haven’t seen her recently, but I’m going to visit her next week,” she said. “She’s not okay now.”

Maurice Gran, the co-writer of Birds of a Feather, also offered a glimpse into the challenges Pauline is facing. “Pauline has had trouble recognizing her family. Since the diagnosis, her condition has gathered pace,” he said, adding, “She’s only 65, so it’s devastating.”

Health

Pauline’s close friend and co-star Linda Robson, who has known her since they were children, opened up about her emotional journey with Pauline’s condition. “Sometimes she has down days, but right now, she’s quite upbeat,” Linda said. “I was emotional when I heard that Pauline asked, ‘Where’s my mate Linda Robson?’”

Pauline’s dementia journey has been a private and painful one, but it’s clear that she has been a source of inspiration for many. Her husband, Steve, expressed how difficult it has been to watch his wife step away from her career due to her condition. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce Pauline’s decision to step back from all professional duties,” he shared. “Pauline has touched countless lives through her work and the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA), and her legacy will continue.”

The actress’s condition has not only affected her health but also her professional legacy. Her contributions to the arts and her charity work, particularly the PQA, have helped countless young people develop their skills and self-confidence.

Pauline’s co-stars and family continue to show their support during this difficult time, reflecting on the incredible impact she has had on so many lives.
