The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is mourning the sudden loss of one of its own after a longtime officer and father of four died following a medical emergency, leaving a family, and an entire department, grappling with an unexpected and heartbreaking loss.

Officer Michael Miles, 39, passed away early Sunday, Jan. 4, at a hospital in Gaston County after suffering a medical complication, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. A specific cause of death has not been released.

A Career Defined by Service and Mentorship

Miles joined CMPD on October 15, 2012, and quickly became a respected presence within the department. Beyond his regular patrol duties, he served as a Patrol Training Officer, a role that placed him at the forefront of mentoring and shaping new officers entering the force.
